Pure Majek As a first time amateur builder, we appreciate the continual support and guidance in helping with our 11.6m – Pure Majek. You’ve been very patient with all the phone calls and the ‘component specials’ you find are a bonus to our meagre budget. What was thought to be just a wish, is coming to fruition, thank you.

Mike Hawkins - Bowen When I decided to build a cat I checked out designers and designs, then talked to every cat owner that I could find, every Snell easy owner that I met said that it is a top boat without vices it's roomy and fast and as the name implies easy to build. another big win is the fact that I was a musician not a boat builder, but if I do have a problem Peter is only a phone call away, unlike some other designers I have been told of. Thanks Peter and Anne.

Heartbeat Hi Peter, I do hope you don’t mind me sending you some up to date pics of Heartbeat. The boat performed faultlessly during our recent trip to Cairns, including most of the islands & reefs, total kilometres covered 5000. Much to our surprise at most of the moorings someone or other knew the story of our beautiful craft. Thank you once again …

Bushytale

I own the first of the Easy 37's - Bushytales. I was lucky though in that I bought it already built. This boat was originally built by Peter Snell and I have owned it for the last two and a half years. I have been more than happy with it in all this time - they are a great design boat and sails well.

My advice to prospective builders would be, it's a big project but if you've got the dream then give it a go. There is lots of great reading material about and Peter's plans are pretty easy to follow, even for first timers like me. Don't be put off by the size of the project, it's really just a series of smaller jobs that are just done in sequence. You need to be realistic though, both about the time you have available and whether you are the sort of person, or have the desire deep down inside, to see the project through to it's completion. As for me, so far so good!

G'Day Folks
my wife and I are in the process of construction of a 35 ft easy (No65) neither of us knew what we getting into, but madness runs in the family so we jumped on in. Found boat plans called "Easy" only to discover well into the project that Easy was Peter's brother in law's nick name and bore no relation to the construction process! Although it not been too traumatic and we picked up some skills in the process, when we stated the project the only skills we had were as a graphic designer and diesel mechanic now we can add loonies to the list of credentials. I was looking at some of the tips on this site for tooling gluing construction etc and wish I had found this site earlier as it would have been very helpful. (ref to easycat.50webs.com  -ed)The tool I have found most useful has been a sense of humour, although I have worn out several of them, but have been able to find replacements at the local bottl'o. We are currently are at the bridgedeck stage and hope to have her in the water in a few years. as soon as we are able will post some pics.

Got A GripGot A Grip

About 10 years ago I was startled to read one of Peter’s adds that indicated that any mug could build a cat soundly and cheaply  with the right plans advice and commitment.

So I had a test sail on his 30 footer and decided that I could do reasonable justice to a bigger project and so bought the plans for 10.5  No 3.

The commitment to this was total, particularly from my wife Trisha who ran our business while I learnt the boat building.

Peter & Ann’s knowledge in ply construction is universal and is freely given. I don’t know how often I rang and  was sorted out  with immediate & effective results.

So after 3 years effort we launched S.V. Got A Grip in December 1998. She is of course the pride of our lives and we try to use her on a weekly basis. This is hard to achieve when all the social commitment of family and hobbies are factored in, but we try.

We had a few trips north from Jervis Bay where we are moored, to Sydney and then to Foster,  and had the continual great time that comes from cruising with your mate (ie Trisha) in a safe vessel.

We had sailed dingies for years so in my eyes our hulls needed lengthening and I proceeded to do this with  the Snell’s blessing and now the 10.5 is about 11.5 and we seldom drag a transom.

On April fools day 2005 we left Jervis for places north and had about 1000mlies of southerlies taking us through to Gladstone. Along the way we hit 18 kts down a wave off Port Stephens with all the rag up. Made many friends and had the absolute fun and joy that you get on a boat. We had about 3 months in Qld getting as far as the Whitsunday Islands, which we reckon are the best and we will return, shortly.

Thanks again Snells

Kind regards

Phil & Trisha Bowden.

logo People come to us because we specialise in Multihulls.
The EASY range of catamarans have proven very popular by customers request.
As soon as one is listed with us we get immediate results.
People who buy them tell us they enjoy how easy they are to handle or manage due to the simple approach to rig & sail plan. They also say that the very practical approach to the layout provides spacious living areas while cruising to their favourite places.
The new owners often comment on just how well they sail, especially in ideal cruising conditions.
Providing the boats are built according to the designers guidelines they will hold their value. And last but not least, all of the previous owners we have sold Easy’s for have been very pleased with the support provided by Peter Snell.
Trevor "I am building an 11.6 and have found the plans straight forward and easy to follow.
The ply construction is great for the amateur builder and with this fantastic design, looks good.
A big plus is the access to Peter and Anne for advice."
See you later

Terry Having reached a stage in life where it means now or never my wife Catherine and I decided to fulfil a lifelong dream and build a boat. Years and countless study plans were acquired trying to decide on what type of vessel would suit our needs, being owners of runabouts our thoughts always remained with power boats, until one day my father mentioned catamarans. Thanks to the wonderful world of the internet we found Anne and Peters Easy catamaran site. After a quick trip to Queensland we met Anne and Peter and had the chance to crawl over a 9.9m Easy which was nearing completion and thanks to Dexter we had a day to pic his brain and to look in depth into what we could expect over the coming years if we were to go ahead with the project. We were
particularly impressed with the open approach from the Snells and their boating community so the decision was made!! It was to be an Easy 37!!
Plans were bought, plywood and epoxy sourced and purchased and thanks to Peter batten and chine material supplied.

Sacrifices had to be made on the home front, the 7m x 4m aviary had to go and the newly completed bbq area converted into a work area! Although the project can be rather daunting at times Peter and Anne are
only a phone call or email away, also the builders web site carries a wealth of information, it acts more like a living encyclopaedia than a website.

Thanks to Anne and Peter for the inspiration to fulfil the dream.

'Being first-time amateur boat builders the assistance, both in person and over the telephone from Anne and Peter cannot be overstated - I really can't believe the time they give to help the novice and it certainly does make boat building both 'easy' and certainly enjoyable'

Norris - NZ Norris - NZComing to the end of a 3 year project, building the 11.6.  Plenty of hard work, but boatloads of satisfaction.  Great support from the Snells.  Help is always just a phone call away.

Tony Norris  11.6 builder   New Zealand.

“Knowing from the outset that taking on a complete boat building project was not going to happen for me, but still wanting to be part of the process, made the decision so much easier when we found Peter and Anne.  Peter agreed to build the shell of a 32 which became the new Jessica 9.9 and the fun began.  The decision to choose the 9.9 was difficult; however, we have owned a 9m Simpson Cat and a 7m Farrier Tri before and were really quite happy with the size of this vessel for coastal cruising.

The 9.9 has advantages of being a little cheaper to build when on a tight budget especially when it comes to fitting out,  less mooring costs, easier to find slipways for hauling out, less draft to poke into creeks, easy single handled sailing and I am please to say there is no compromise in performance.  Early trials have seen speeds up to 14-15 knots, not down the face of a wave, but scooting across Moreton Bay, on a reach, in 20 knot breezes.  Heather and I love sailing “Real Easy” and have never felt so comfortable and safe before.

With the boat now operational, I am now busy completing the interior and having fun in the process.  We can’t express enough, our appreciation to Peter and Anne for making our dream a reality.  In the process we have become good friends of Peter, Anne and Flash and enjoying the friendship of the extended Easy family.  Peter’s designs really work and if we had our time over again there is not one single thing we would change.
